Congratulations on taking the first steps to managing your health with Total Family Urgent Care. Whether you are preparing for a new job or being evaluated to return to work, you have come to the right place!

An important part of maintaining health and wellness at work is receiving the proper physical exams and screenings. At Total Family Urgent Care, we’re compliant with your company’s policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, and dedicate ourselves to providing you with an outstanding experience. Just walk in, no appointment is needed.

Most jobs require new employees to complete a health evaluation by their primary physician to assess your ability to perform specific responsibilities and certain skills that are required of you on a regular basis for that job. This pre-placement test helps protect individuals from any risk factors that may affect an individual’s competency and prevent any injuries from occurring on the job.

During a pre-employment exam, you may be asked to perform various tasks related to your job requirements that may be crucial for your success. This may include tasks such as lifting, carrying, pulling, and pushing.

Injuries happen, don’t worry, we are all human. Before returning to work after an injury, an employer may require you to be cleared with a return-to-work assessment to make sure it is safe for you to return to your normal duties on the job. This procedure helps reduce the risk of re-injury upon return, keeping you safe and sound.

During a work-related physical exam, a TFUC provider will evaluate your overall health and look for possible symptoms of illness or chronic conditions that may diminish your abilities to perform the duties at your job.

The tests your provider recommends will depend on the type of physical examination being conducted.

If applicable, you’ll review your medical health history and job information with your provider. Then your provider will usually check, but not limited to:

  • Vital signs – such as blood pressure, heart rate, and temperature.

  • Your heart – to detect possible signs of heart disease.

  • Your lungs – to listen for any wheezing or difficulty breathing.

  • Your abdomen – to check on the health of your liver, bowels, and other organs.

  • Your skin – skin problems can be signs and symptoms of other underlying illnesses.

There is a three-part exam included during the exam:

Part one: a comprehensive medical history

Part two: a complete physical examination to evaluate general health, physical well-being, current fitness level, and to assess any risk for injury. A focused exam is completed based on the job specific requirements.

Part three: Functional physical test to test strength and flexibility that may include: lifting, carrying, pulling, and pushing.

Other exams include:

  • Monitoring heart and blood pressure

  • Testing for diabetes

  • Discuss diet and exercise options

  • Hearing and vision screening

  • Testing for cholesterol and anemia

  • Drug testing (If outlined under job requirements)

  •

Identify any risk factors associated with:

  • Heart

  • Stroke

  • Diabetes

  • High Cholesterol

  • High blood pressure

After the exam, your provider will report to your employer whether or not you are suitable and capable for a that particular job and its requirements. Your provider may be able to request accommodations on your behalf based on the examination prior to starting the job.

Before you visit your Physician for a work-related physical or screening, please gather any paperwork from your employer as well as any medical information to bring to your visit so our providers can better understand your medical history, such as:

  • Any paperwork provided by your employer, including this Employer Authorization Form

  • Any documents needed for a DOT physical, if applicable.

  • Valid driver's license, state/federal/local issued ID, or employer issued badge.

  • List of current medications.

  • List of past surgeries and medical conditions.

  • List of any allergies.
